year of manufacture

 my beetle was registered in 73 but apparently if I can prove it was manufactured prior to 1 Jan 73 it would be tax exempt - does anyone know how I do this please?

 Best bet is simply to VW UK. There are websites that will tell you from the chassis number what year and month it was made but the tax office do not accept these as proof. VW UK should be able to give you acceptable proof.
